Bolt from the Blue

Bolt from the Blue

2018 Size: 44"h x 62"w Price: $3500.

One of my activity-packed series called Racing. This one is full of spikiness and joy --- a "Woo Hoo" moment, a bumptious modern dance, a lightning storm.

Galloping

Galloping

2018 Size: 43"h x 63"w Price: $3500

One of my activity-packed series called “Racing”. Complex colors and patterns mix with an explosive forward movement across the canvas.

Bravo! Brava!

Bravo! Brava!

2018 Size: 41” h x 34” w Price: $900

This composition appears to be an actor’s mask, winking. Accepting the accolades of the audience and the bouquet, he smiles. The pattern is based on the traditional "Wagon Wheel' or "Spider's Web", changing up the scale and arrangements of the “spider’s web” motif. Bravo! Brava! has lively motion, suiting the idea of theatrical performances. It is a flowery tribute in reds.

Currently in Fibre Theatricks (a SAQA regional show) at the Harrington gallery, Pleasanton, CA.

Limelight

Limelight

2018 Size: 38"h x 29"w Price: $1800

"Five (sic) Characters in Search of an Author" as Luigi Pirandello might have said. Except the actors are pears. The curtains part and the spotlights over the proscenium arch glare down on the stage, putting them in the "Limelight".

Currently in Fibre Theatricks (a SAQA regional show) at the Harrington gallery, Pleasanton, CA.

Sinfonia Plus

Sinfonia Plus

2018 Size: 56”h x 50”w     Price: $1000

Sinfonia Plus is a pattern of mysterious, curvaceous shapes surrounded by “marks”. Some pin them to the background, some flow around them, rushing them away. Plus signs and dots anchor the movements of the lines and shapes. To increase the tension between flow and stability, a grid of lines is quilted into the fabric with a syncopated, tartan-like pattern.

Negative spaces are as relevant as the positive forms. Dark red framing contains the exaggerated activity.

Bodako

Bodako

2018 Size: approx. 45” x 45” Price: $450

Bodako is composed in the image of the traditional Japanese boro. The bodako, used over a futon, is approximately two tatami mats in size. Deliberately irregular and old looking, it uses worn blue jeans and blue denim, a nod to the indigo-dyed fabrics of the early boro. Its patches comprise mostly Japanese woven or printed fabrics, with a few modern additions.

Recently in a show called “Something Boro’ed, Something Blue” at the Brush Gallery, Lowell Massachusetts.

Compartments 2

2018 Size: 48”h x 34”w Price $800

The electric excitement we sometimes feel as theater-goers is achieved by actors tapping into their deep emotions. The variety of those emotions is astounding. The framework represents the stage or stages these emotions are playing out on.

Currently in Fibre Theatricks (a SAQA regional show) at the Harrington gallery, Pleasanton, CA.
